Welcome to MGHIHP-2010 South Africa

Today in SA-4. This is the initial posting for the MGHIHP-2010 South Africa trip. We're very excited to be leaving for South Africa on August 5, 2010. Our merry band consists of five of us- 4 students and one faculty member. Our initial destination is Boston Logan and then it's off to CapeTown where we hope to see the sites of some of the recent history of South Africa as well as its' natural beauty. Each of us will be contributing to this blog with our comments, photos, and even videos. For now, it's scrambling to complete all sorts of tasks prior to departure. We hope you will respond to our postings- family, friends, colleagues and readers with your messages. Inge

  4. SA-2. AS you might have worked out. SA-is South Africa minus two days until departure. The emails back and forth to South Africa continue. Our colleague Joy will be taking us to a rural hospital. That visit will expand our undertsanding of health care in South Africa. In a previous visit I have seen a quarternary hospital in Durban that is latest state of the art with computers at each bed-side. As in the U.S. one can find a range of health care facilities. The breadth of that range will be of interest. Inge

  6. Have a restful journey as I know once you are on the ground your energy will explode with the sights, sounds, and flavors of the country. Listen to the people, observe their interactions and take in how people care for and care about others. I can't wait to hear of your travels and experiences. Lynda

  11. SA-1. Dear Friends, Thank you all for your good wishes both on the blog and by email. We will carry them with us. As you can imagine, SA-1 is replete with frenetic activity to complete a variety of tasks.

On a sadder note, one of our number will be unable to come with us due to illness in the family. We wish our collegaue and friend the relief of being with loved ones and the hope of a recovery for the family member. And so we carry one, sadder for the loss of of one our members on the trip and hopeful for the well-being of the ill family member. Inge
