Friday Night Fun in Durban!

Friday night we met up with our new friend, Emily, who we met when we toured McCord Hospital earlier in the week. We discussed nursing school with Emily over a glass of wine, as she is interested in the MGH IHP. She and her boyfriend, Simon, took us to the waterfront where we got drinks at Moyo, which is a bar built on one of the piers along the beach. Hundreds of fishermen lined the beach sporting head lamps and fishing in the Indian ocean. It provided the perfect backdrop of Durban lit up at night. Afterwards we ventured over to Florida Street, which is lined with several restaurants and trees that remain colorfully decorated from the World Cup. We ate at an Indian restaurant and tried the local Indian staple, Bunny Chow. The history of Bunny Chow dates back to the apartheid, when Indian workers needed a way of transporting their lunches as they went to work each day. A loaf of bread was hollowed out and filled with curry seasoned meat or vegetables and then topped off with the remanents of the bread. After dinner we headed back to our apartment near Musgrave.
